Different Types of Swim Lessons at Pelican Bay

Swim lessons are an essential part of childhood development, as they help children learn critical water skills, confidence, and safety. Swim programs often offer different levels, tailored to a child’s skill and experience in the water. In this post, we’ll explore our different levels of swim lessons, from parent-child classes to advanced stroke improvement classes.

Parent-Child Classes

Parent-child classes are an excellent introduction to swimming. These lessons offer parent-guided swim lessons that help children feel comfortable, have fun, learn to ask for permission before entering the water, and how to enter and exit the water in a safe manner. During these classes, swimmers will explore submerging the mouth, nose, eyes, and gain experience wearing a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket.

Preschool Classes

Preschool classes are beginner-level classes that teach children basic water skills, water acclimation, safety skills and rules, on their own. These classes help children learn to become comfortable with being in the water, submerging their face, and learning propulsion.

Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills

Level 1 swim lessons focus on making children comfortable in the water and helping them safely enjoy it. During these classes, children will learn how to breathe, float, kick, and use their arms while swimming.

Level 2: Fundamentals of Aquatic Skills

In level 2 swim lessons, children will learn basic swimming skills such as floating, gliding, and kicking on their front and back. They will also learn to coordinate their arms and legs during swimming and gain confidence in the water.

Level 3: Stroke Development

During level 3 swim lessons, children will receive additional guided practice to improve their swimming skills further. They will learn how to do the front crawl stroke, backstroke, and elementary backstroke.

Level 4: Stroke Improvement

In level 4 swim lessons, children will gain confidence during swim lessons, improve their strokes, and gain additional aquatic skills. Swimmers will refine their front crawl and backstroke and learn breaststroke and butterfly stroke.

In conclusion, swim lessons are crucial in a child’s development and safety around water. Recognizing the appropriate swim level suited for the child’s skills and experience in the water is essential. Parent-child classes offer an excellent beginning to swimming, followed by preschool classes, and the different swim levels provide continuity and essential skills to become water-safe and competent swimmers.
