Lifeguard Certification Course

Pelican Bay offers the Red Cross certification course for deep water swimming at a cost of $150, with a $75 reimbursement for Pelican Bay employees. The course is available to individuals aged 15 and above who can successfully complete a series of swimming tasks, including a 300-meter swim, treading water for 2 minutes, swimming 20 yards, and retrieving a brick from the deep end. The certification is valid for 2 years and is taught by a qualified Red Cross instructor. The course is offered through a blended learning approach, where participants must complete the online course prior to attending the in-person session.

Ages:

15 years old and above

Requirements:

  • Be 15 and above
  • Completion of the online course prior to attending the in-person session
  • 300-meter swim
  • Treading water for 2 minutes
  • Swim 20 yards to retrieve a brick from the deep end

Jr. Lifeguard Camp

Junior Lifeguard Camp is a great way to teach teens responsibility and skills while having fun. Students will be introduced to basic lifeguard skills, including water safety, rescue, CPR, AED, and first aid.

Participants will receive:

  • Junior Lifeguard Shirt.
  • Whistle.
  • Free access to Pelican Bay during Public Swim for the remainder of the season after the completion of the camp.
  • Participants who are 15 years old are given an opportunity to test for their full Lifeguard Certification.

Ages:

10 – 15 years old

Requirements:

  • Must be 10-15 years old by June 1st
  • Must be able to swim independently without assistance 50 meters nonstop freestyle
  • Must be able to tread water for 1 minute
  • Must be able to fully submerge head in water
